Most transmission repair does not require complete overhauls. A lot of the problems are going to be fairly minor ones that can be fixed without having to take the whole thing apart. Making sure you are sure of what is going wrong with the automobile before agreeing to pay for a full fix may save you a lot of money.
When a transmission goes out, the entire car is immobilized. The transmission is what puts power from the engine into the wheels to actually drive the car. Without the transmission working, your car isn’t going anywhere.
The price to get the transmission completely repaired can range from around $1,800 to $3,500, so finding the best price is a must. Most mechanics are going to try to charge as much as possible when they realize you need a full repair. Not to say that they are trying to cheat you, but because they want to get the most for the sometimes very large amount of time it will take to finish the work.
Calling and getting different estimates is important. Sometimes one mechanic will claim the price is around three thousand while another may offer to do the same job at about fifteen hundred. Though the prices may not be the same as the final price you will pay, the difference in the prices is good leverage in negotiations.

Never be afraid to negotiate when it comes to these costs. In some places the art of bartering has gone away a bit. But the biggest part of the price is the cost of labor. If someone feels that they either have to work a little cheaper than normal or lose you as a client completely, they are more likely to be willing to move on the price.
If you know someone that has some knowledge of auto repair, it is a good idea to ask them what they think is wrong with the vehicle before going to a professional mechanic. When you go into talk to the mechanic, being able to tell them exactly what you believe to be the problem will prove to them that you are knowledgeable and not someone that they can easily take advantage of. Most mechanics aren’t out to really trick you into spending more money than you should, but they will often recommend extra repairs that might be able to be put off for many thousands of miles more.
No matter what the transmission repair cost is, it is probably going to set you back if the whole thing goes. The best bet is to take preemptive steps to stop problems before they get too bad.
